dreamlike

The fans whir in the small dorm room and they still can't cool things down. The windows are closed but yet the warm air seeps its way in defeating the high speed air that comes from the plastic blades. The boy tells stories about catching bullfrogs when he was younger and that its turning into a story that will be published for children...muddy feet and turtles hiding in feet impressed holes in the dirt. Again he whispers moments of Elvis songs, "suspicious minds, suspicious minds" he says. Glassy eyes gleam, another cigarette lit.

wreckage from the past

Do you remember a few years back when we were all at that party? When the birthday girl came in Miss K shot her with spray adhesive and we threw confetti at her. You knew her, I didn't. However, you invited us. So just a quick introduction and we were all instant friends. Remember when I picked the confetti off your neck and gave it to you, a pink heart. You said jokingly that I stole your heart and was giving it back. Har har. Do you remember when someone was playing around the stereo and played the Misfits? We were sweaty and tired from dancing around to the Murder City Devils, but we all put our arms around each other, held up our Heinekens and yelled "WATCHING YOU DIIIIIIIIIE!"

We were so punk rock then. Your leather jacket. My faded black hoodie that I still wear. All blood, sweat, and tear stains.

martyr of a different kind

Valentines Day always made her angry. Why waste money on cards, flowers and candy on a day which is known for multiple martyred saints named "Valentine" and a day known for a massacre?

Ever since she could remember, the day never served her any happiness.

Today, however, she realized all of her mistakes. She couldn't believe she let things happen the way they did. Everything hit her and she finally understood what he meant when he told her those things that broke her heart, but were needed to be said.

She was slowly on the path to breathing on her own again, but the empty thud inside her chest was still there.
